Hourtin Carcans, around the lake
Discover France’s largest freshwater lake by bike. Lac d’Hourtin, to the north of Lac de Lacanau, offers a bike ride from Carcans-Maubuisson through the maritime pines, with panoramic views over the lake. Soak up the scent of pine trees and sea air, and let the birdsong carry you along the well-maintained cycle paths of the Médoc Atlantique. After enjoying Hourtin’s supervised beach, continue to Hourtin Plage along the cycle path. Carefully cross the main road towards the Lagune de Contaut. Continue on the vélodyssée to Carcans-Plage / Maubuisson through picturesque oak groves and varied vegetation.
Where can I rent a bike on Lac de Lacanau?
If you don’t have the equipment to ride around the lake, you can rent bikes from Moutchic Loisirs, right next to the start of the circuit. The bikes on offer are top-quality, selected for their lightness, sturdiness and performance. The rental company has a range of different models of mountain bikes for men and women, mountain bikes and children’s bikes.
If you have small children, you can also rent a baby seat or trailer from Moutchic Loisirs. Baskets are also available to carry your picnic or soft drinks in comfort. Classic bikes can be rented from 8.5 euros to 10 euros (child and adult rates) per half-day, and electric bikes from 25 euros. Reduced rates are also available for full-day, weekly and even 2-week rentals.

What to see around Lac de Lacanau
The tour of the Lacanau lake takes you through a wide variety of landscapes, some wild, some built-up: an opportunity to discover the surrounding area and get a taste of all the other walks and activities that await you during your stay.
The trail crosses the Canal des Étangs twice , to the north and south of the lake: an essential outlet for the Landes region’s bodies of water, the watercourse joins Lac d’Hourtin 6 km upstream and mingles with the Lège current on the edge of the Arcachon basin.
The itinerary also runs alongside beautiful beaches such as Grande Escourre and Le Moutchic. At Le Moutchic, you’ll discover a whole new facet of the lake, with countless leisure activities on offer, including paddle-boarding, the inflatable Splash Park, swimming, motorboats and pedalos.
The precious natural spaces of the lake’s shores are then revealed as you stroll from the pointe du Tedey to the pointe du Bernos. Facing the jagged banks of the southeastern part of the lake, the Ile aux Oiseaux (Bird Island) invites you to explore nature.
Finally, a trip through Lacanau-ville is an opportunity to stop off at some of the small shops or admire the boats in the harbour.
