Lacanau, located on the Atlantic coast in southwest France, is an ideal destination for families with children in search of beautiful beaches. With its stretches of golden sand, perfect waves for surfing and safe swimming areas, Lacanau offers a diversity of beaches to suit all needs. The Central Beach, with its many amenities, is perfect for a family day out, while the quieter South Beach is ideal for a quiet getaway. The surrounding dunes and pine forests add a natural touch, making Lacanau a true family seaside paradise close to our Lacanau campsite.
Enjoy the beaches of Lacanau Océan
Lacanau Océan offers a variety of magnificent beaches, each with its own particular strengths. Plage des Écureuils is perfect for those seeking tranquillity, surrounded by dunes and pine trees. The lively Plage Centrale, with its many amenities, is ideal for families with children. Plage Super Sud attracts surfers with its constant waves and friendly atmosphere. Finally, the wilder, less-frequented Plage Nord offers natural beauty and vast stretches of sand. Each of Lacanau Océan’s beaches promises unforgettable moments for every taste.
Les Ecureuils beach (South beach)
But what a strange name for a beach, you might ask? It’s also known by the much more classic name of “Plage Sud” in Lacanau. This area is ideal for family stays and outings. Guarded by lifeguards in July and August, it’s also close to the Rainbow Café and Club Mickey. If you have children, this beach is definitely worth visiting at least once! However, because of its popularity with tourists, it’s hard to find room. But if you can find some, you’ll certainly enjoy the beautiful waves during your swim. This beach is the closest to our Lacanau campsite if you want to swim in the ocean, and can be reached in around 10 minutes by car.
If Plage Centrale is too crowded, try Lacanau’s Plage Sud. Accessible by car or bike, it features duckboards on the dune and a 600-meter pedestrian promenade linking the two beaches. The South Beach, with lifeguard surveillance from May to September, offers sanitary facilities and a bike park. Please note that pets are not allowed in summer.
La plage Centrale, in the center of Lacanau
2 beaches, 2 atmospheres. The Central beach has nothing in common with the previous one. This is a historic beach, known to all (or almost all). In high season, it’s particularly difficult to find a place to enjoy the sun on this large beach.
Its assets? It is accessible to people with reduced mobility, and there are several parking lots nearby. A word of advice: get there as early as possible if you want to spend the day. It’s also ideal for beginner surfers who can have fun on waves that are lower and hollow due to erosion.
Lacanau Océan’s central beach, located in the heart of the town, is lined with shops and restaurants, and accessible by bike. Access is via stairs from the paid parking lots. Every year, this beach plays host to the Caraïbos Lacanau Pro, a renowned surfing event. At high tide, the beach becomes smaller due to erosion. For more space, head for the north and south beaches. Mickey’s Beach Club is 50 metres from the lifeguard station. Pets are not allowed in summer. What to do in Lacanau Cycling in Lacanau
Lacanau’s Super Sud beach
Lacanau Océan’s Super Sud beach, at the southernmost point of the resort, offers a large, shaded parking area under the trees. Accessible after crossing the dunes on protected paths, it stretches as far as the eye can see, ideal for peace and disconnection. Less crowded and wilder, it features dry toilets, picnic tables and a bike park. Walking and cycling paths have been renovated. Pets are not allowed in summer.
This supervised beach is ideal for family days out with the kids. You can get there by taking a bike ride through the countryside. Gold for the eyes and fresh air for the lungs! The beach is supervised and is a popular spot for water sports. However, as the current is strong, it’s not really recommended for novices.
Super Nord beach
Lacanau’s northern beach, close to the town center, is accessible via a charming forest and dune path. This long sandy beach, with lifeguard surveillance in summer, is ideal for families and surf enthusiasts. Fast food options and surf schools are available in season. The beach is equipped with Tiralos for people with reduced mobility. Pets are not allowed in summer.
This beach is set back from the town and, for this very reason, is ideal for spending some quiet time. If you’re in the mood for a leisurely stroll or a relaxing break, this little nature spot has everything you need to dazzle you. It’s a beautiful place. Note, however, that during the day, many nudists settle here. This doesn’t stop beginners and experienced surfers alike from visiting, and you’ll find several sandbanks.
Jah Point beach
This wild beach is little-known and mostly frequented by locals. Its name is said to have been inspired by the name of a regular surfer who spent a lot of time on this beach, challenging the waves.
It’s a beautiful, remote spot in the forest, and particularly wild. But wild means… unsupervised. Be careful if you want to swim!
Without doubt the most popular surf spot in Lacanau!
Alexandre beach
Have you always dreamed of strolling along an almost untouched beach? Alexandre beach is for you! Located to the north of Lacanau, this beautiful area is particularly wild and the atmosphere is very friendly.
How do I get there? You’ll have to go for a bike ride or a walk! You don’t get something for nothing! Winding forest paths between sand dunes await you!Surf Lacanau
